The simple answer is yes, it is possible to fit a NEC ND-6750A DVD writer in a Compaq EVO N620c laptop. At least, I did.
Furthermore, I didn't have to mess around with Reverse ATA, flashing the firmware or anything else remotely scary like that. It just works! It isn't a perfect fit. The NEC has a smaller bezel than the original drive, bit since I usually use a second battery in the multibay slot and only occassionally put the DVD writer in, it's no big deal for me. Have a look at the photo's and make your own mind up.
After literally hours of research on the web, I couldn't find a definitive answer. So hopefully this helps someone.
